While children slide up to the table and grown ups search the house for extra chairs, I wander into their bedroom.

The full bed sits at an angle and the dresser is covered in papers. Sitting upright, behind the clutter of papers and rubber bands and ball caps, are collage photo frames.

These collage frames are old and the glass is chipped and the pictures hang sideways in some spots, but the memories captured remain.

I wonder if my grandpa glances over here at night, as he’s drifting off to sleep to the rhythmic sound of his oxygen tank. Does he roll over, making sure not to crimp the line as he stares at the picture of he and my grandma some 60 plus years ago? It’s faded and worn, like him.

There are photos of uncles and cousins at varying ages, my aunt and dad smile through the dusty glass; me as a chubby baby and then a chubby little girl.

This is what we did, we took pictures. We lined up in front of old trees and new motorcycles. We smiled on command and laughed because the grown ups behind us were poking each other.

And when you go visiting — family or friends — don’t you love to look at pieces of their life captured and hanging on the wall or stuffed in the photo books? I do.

Welcome to Suscipio’s Flickr Group!  This will be a place for us to get to know each other and encourage each other in black and white or living color.  The closest thing we may ever come to ‘seeing each other’ in this life. So head on over there and share.

Welcome! I’m Jenny, the administrator of Suscipio, a home for the Catholic woman on the web. I have been married to Chris almost 20 years, strictly by the grace of God and we have seven precious souls, one brand spankin’ new. I have blogged for years over at A Minute Captured, but recently felt God leading me to start a communal website for Catholic women. I hope my blogging shows what my life really looks like, no puttin’ on airs around here. It’s messy and beautiful and blessed beyond measure.
