Oh Yeah, By the Way…

I could blame this late post on any number of things none the least of which would be Internet Explorer or the devil messing with my introduction post to The Catholic Child’s Teaching Bible© yesterday but I won’t. I’ll just keep all things happy and positive and light and free…

Here’s what should have been posted yesterday, but wasn’t.

My Year of Faith

My Year of Faith

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
†Hebrews 11:1

A week or so ago, as I was putting the finishing touches on a project very near and dear to my heart, I was given the grace to see where it had began. I’m emotional just thinking about it now.

You see, there was a time a couple of years ago when I was struggling–to put it very lightly. And in that time, it felt as though I were down to my last bit of faith and afraid of losing even that. And that is exactly where God allowed me to stay for a while. In that darkness, He spoke to me through His powerful, life changing, inerrant Word.

In that time, I realized God’s Word could encourage me, fight my battles, life my spirits and bring me to a position of thanksgiving.

…so that the genuineness of your faith, more precious than gold which though perishable is tested by fire, may redound to praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
†1 Peter 1:7

And that was my Year of Faith…actually more like two years but I don’t think God keeps score like I do.

This Spring, God nudged me to begin working on a Bible resource, The Catholic Child’s Teaching Bible©. This book would help families teach their children how to grow in the virtues while strengthening them against temptation and vice. This book would be a way for families to quickly and easily find just the right Scripture verses for common behaviors in their home.

But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.
†1 Timothy 6:11

God gently showed me, that had it not been for those couple of years of pain and suffering, I would not have been equipped to put together a book using the Scriptures to teach my children how to strive for heaven and live their Catholic faith.

Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.
†Romans 10:17

After I finished The Catholic Child’s Teaching Bible©, I asked a couple of ladies whose opinions I value, to look it over. Sweet Allison asked if I had any idea or planned the completion of this book to coincide with the Holy Father announcing the Year of Faith. I of course had no idea; I had to laugh at the timing though. I have been working on this while homeschooling, changing diapers, cooking and cleaning, and finished it just a week before the Year of Faith was announced. God’s ways are certainly mysterious and His timing perfect.

I offer this back story as a word of encouragement. You never know what good God has planned. At the time, I only wanted out of that pain with no regard to how it would impact my future. And God allowed that pain to use it for His glory in my future.
