Professor Myriam Wijlens is a Professor of Canon Law at the University of Erfurt in Germany. She has extensive qualifications in Catholic Theology and Canon Law from universities in Europe and North America, and has held visiting Professorships at the Catholic University of America in Washington DC and Saint Paul University in Ottawa.
Professor Wijlens is the co-moderator of the international research group “Peter and Paul Seminar” focusing on necessary reforms to structures within the Church. Since 1988 she has engaged with the topic of child abuse in the Church, and in 2018 Pope Francis appointed her a member of the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors.
