Good Monday Morning Ladies! Before you do anything else on the internet…and I mean ANYTHING ELSE…you have to watch this Dove advertisement. HAVE TO. One of my daughters was telling me about it, she watched it at Challenge Girls Camp this summer.
I would love to know your thoughts on it. I’ll tell you, it made me cry. It made me cry because of all the junk I heard growing up about my body and looks. It made me cry because I have teen daughters and I see the secret struggles, the ones they think are hidden deep within; I see how much they struggle and it hurts my momma heart. It hurts me because I wish they saw what I see. It hurts me that they keep this struggle so private and secretive so we can’t even openly discuss it.
Moving on…let’s take a peek into life…
Thanking God For
::Spicy Pulled Pork for Sunday Dinner
::Chris having the first weekend off in almost 3 weeks
::seeing the State Trooper up the road play with his baby in the morning on their porch as he gets ready for work
::the smell of fresh mowed grass
::Leo hollering “MAH-MAAAAHHHHH”
::July goals met and August goals set
I am as always praying for my children. The pressure to be “perfect” is so huge in our children’s lives. Our daughters set physical goals that are unrealistic and unreachable…and then beat themselves up when they can’t attain the unattainable.
I am conversing with God, “How can I best serve my children? How can I best serve my daughters as they struggle internally over externals?
13 Who pities a snake charmer when he is bitten, or all those who go near wild animals?
14 So no one pities a person who associates with a sinner and becomes involved in the other’s sins.
15 He stands by you for a while, but if you falter, he will not be there.
16 An enemy speaks sweetly with his lips, but in his heart he plans to throw you into a pit; an enemy may have tears in his eyes, but if he finds an opportunity he will never have enough of your blood.
17 If evil comes upon you, you will find him there ahead of you; pretending to help, he will trip you up.
18 Then he will shake his head, and clap his hands, and whisper much, and show his true face.
Have I mentioned there are cucumbers everywhere? I haven’t canned in a week and cucumbers are piling up and rotting. And I’m giving them away at Church girls! I haven’t made bread in a couple of weeks and I feel bad about that because Chris loves our homemade bread and he takes a sandwich to work everyday. How did the women in the old days do it…canning and bread???
Um, still working on Chris’ Granny Square Blanket for our anniversary. See the above mention of canning and bread making…when am I supposed to crochet?
I’m also creating daily routines because we start school the end of this month. I love planning our day. I love colored pens and filling in little boxes with names and assignments and chores…not much love in the follow up and through department.
I’ve been enjoying reading about Emily revamping her life.
Apparently there is a bit of commotion going around the Catholic Mom Blog World…Too Perfect or Doomsday? At least that’s my summary once I stumbled upon this scuffle. I enjoyed reading Sheena’s take over at her blog, Bean in Love. This post over at Hallie Lord’s place, Moxie Wife, has some interesting comments. I think it may have started over at National Catholic Register with this post by Simcha Fisher. Kinds of reminds me of one of the first posts here at Suscipio, And Then. Anyway, just be who you are and everything will be all right.
