Beauty in the Ordinary
First one of my daughters, then Leo, then my oldest daughter and I, then my youngest daughter and another son and now my second oldest daughter have been hit with a cold. That does not make for much beauty in the ordinary.

From the Kitchen
See those legs? Those chubby legs belong to one, Leo the Great, who shared his cold germs with me over the weekend. So, over the weekend, I made a garlic soup to help fight this awful cold. This garlic soup is really good and both my oldest daughter and I agreed that right after eating the soup, we felt better and the next morning, even better.

Cold Coming On Soup –>Tweet this

Servings: 2 {Provided by: In Pursuit of Garlic: An Intimate Look at the Divinely Odorous Bulbby Liz Primeau} (Greystone Books, 2012)
Ingredients

13 cloves garlic, peeled
2 cups chicken stock (or beef or vegetable, but chicken fights colds)
2 thick slices crusty bread
grated Gruyère or cheddar cheese

Directions
1.Simmer garlic in stock for 15 to 20 minutes, until tender. Blend with an immersion blender.
2.Place 1 slice of bread into each bowl and sprinkle with cheese. Pour hot soup overtop.
3.Wrap yourself in a blanket, hold a bowl of soup close to your mouth so that you can inhale the vapours, and spoon it in!

Note: Halve ingredients to serve 1. The general rule is 6 cloves of garlic for each cup of stock, plus 1 for the pot.

Praying
One of my daily prayers is that Chris will continue to grow and mature into the strong spiritual head of our family.

Pondering
Chris and I ran into a lady we used to know about 20 years ago. She just could not get over our life now. So I’ve been thinking, you just never know…20 years ago, Chris and I were just a couple of very weak practicing Catholic kids and now we’re not. 20 years ago he may have been considered a little rowdy and kind of a punk and me, just a boy crazy flirt…and now we’re not. All that to say…you just never know the life God has planned out for you, or your children or anyone you happen across in your daily life.

Meditating
God’s steadfast love. This year, as I’ve been going through my Bible, when I come across the mention of God’s Love for me, I draw a little red heart next to the verse.  Look at all those little red hearts on one page!

  1. Jenny, you should know that sometimes i get overwhelmed with looking up scripture and going through a hard time right now where I need to feel God’s love, the sheer quantity of the hearts now in one of my bibles worked on me! The Lord loves and gives strength in all parts of the word and his message is always ‘fear not’…my child. Obvious to some…but when I went looking for the love…it was there the whole time not just in ‘feeling’ but in word. Lots of hearts and such a girlie thing to do. I love it! ;)

  2. Oh my…those little hearts; what a perfect symbol to use.

I’m going to keep your soup recipe; my husband LOVES garlic. Thank you for sharing.

      • I love the hears too! And the legs! My kids all had legs like that. So sweet. One daughter we could count three fold lines in her upper legs. I actually had to make sure to wash her really good!

  7. What a beautiful story of how God worked – and how you let Him work – in your lives these past 20 years. How blessed your kids truly are because their parents corresponded to God’s grace… Get well, all of you… You must know that photos of your lovable Leo are always so uplifting… Have a good week!

  8. ARGH!! Shared germs are so annoying!! It always seemed to me that the germs somehow mutated whilst living in a kid, so that when they passed them on to Mr. Pea or me, we were seventeen times sicker than the original kid!

Hope you all feel 110% better this week.

I just want to blow raspberries on those baby legs!

  9. That soup is something I am trying…we just got over it as well. I hope you feel better!!

Those chub legs could only belong to one lil man. I love how you just took the bottom half as to not overwhelm us with the cheeks as well. haha so cute!!!

You remind me to take out the bible. I am having trouble with sleep these days as Liam is teething so bad. He was a slow teether and he has a few left. I think we will have a huge party in thanks when they are all through and MAYBE after 2 years he will sleep through the whole night.

And thanks for reminding me to pray for the men. The ones who walk out into the world and have to come back still upholding the spiritual.

    Short Almanac:

    Tortellini and Sauce
Greek Oven Fried Chicken with sides
    Quickie PorkChop Casserole

    Have a blessed week!

    • You are in possession of one realistic Nativity set, Samantha :-) You are right; it was a stable after all. How humbling for us to think about the setting of our Lord’s birth… You are one patient and loving mama to your lil man; congratulations! My, you ladies must have such sweet-smelling kitchens this week!

      • What a sweet thing to say! Thank you :)

    • Hi Samantha. Leo is teething as well. Have you tried an amber necklace? I never had one with my other children, but thought I would give it a try with Leo; for $15 it couldn’t hurt. I actually think it does work. he still has some grumpy moments, but nothing unbearable.

      Your menu sounds delicious.
