Catholic Woman’s Almanac {CWA}

Jenny::Suscipio

Moments of Gratitude
::three day weekend with Chris (Do you know that every time I type ‘Chris’ it ends up ‘Christ’ until I go back and delete a letter?)
::daughters who can bake up something yummy
::squishy babies who smile big
::first week of school under our belt
::air conditioning (because it’s 100+…again)
::New Pens in 12 different colors (These pens write so smooth. These are what I used in my prayer/Scripture journal.)

Beauty in the Ordinary
Our children have assigned chores that rotate on a monthly basis; the new, improved, chore chart made its debut on the first! We’ll see how this works this month. We make adjustments based on need–younger kids ‘need’ more chores, older kids ‘need’ different chores. I pray my children grow up knowing they are a huge contribution to our family and the things we have and enjoy are in part because of them.

From the Kitchen
I asked Chris if we could grocery shop for the month. He said no. He is very wise and knows me well. I have this great plan on paper–I always do–but in reality, they never look as great in real life as they did on paper (with color coded pens).

I do think we’re going to bake up some muffins to freeze along with our pancakes and waffles. It is so much easier to pop (homemade) pancakes and waffles in the toaster, than to start from scratch every morning to be ready in time for 7am breakfast. Same with having a breakfast casserole already made ahead to pop in the oven; the morning just gets off to a better and quicker start.

Praying
::I am praying for you all, recommending you to the care of Our Lady of Sorrows.
::I’m praying for continued discernment for all these plans rolling around in my head

Pondering

“To love God and not to revere the priest…this is not possible.”
(#74 The Way)

“Like the good sons of Noah, cover the weaknesses you may see in your father, the priest, with a cloak of charity.”
(#75 The Way)

Reading
I realized it may seem like I read alot. So in the interest of keepin’ it real, let’s go back through past CWA’s and see where I stand on books listed:

My Bible –daily

Imitation of Christ –we will be reading it together in September and possibly October here at Suscipio.  (I don’t want to rush through it.)

The Way, Furrow and The Forge –small bite daily

We and Our Children –haven’t finished

Margin–haven’t finished

Aspire–finished

Splendor in the Ordinary–haven’t finished

My Ideal–finished (because I was reading it to the children each morning).

Jesus Our Eucharistic Love–haven’t finished and actually put back on the shelf…I’m sure it’s me and not the book

The Art of Catholic Mothering–haven’t finished, put it back on the shelf

Parenting Teens with Love and Logic–had to take back to the library before I could finish it, honestly don’t remember a word form the book and haven’t bothered to recheck it.

The Power of a Woman’s Words–haven’t finished

Memorizing
The Magnificat

Pinned
Natural Cleaners
Whiter Whites
Good Idea–Spray paint folding chairs

Making a ‘visit’ to a local church

Welcome! I’m Jenny, the administrator of Suscipio, a home for the Catholic woman on the web. I have been married to Chris 20 years, strictly by the grace of God. We have seven precious souls from teen to baby. I have blogged for years over at A Minute Captured, but this year felt God leading me to start a communal website for Catholic women. I hope my personal contribution to Suscipio shows what my life really looks like; It’s messy and beautiful and blessed beyond measure.

  1. I enjoy reading your blog and I have nominated you for the Liebster Award
    You can go to my page to see what it is.

  2. Jenny…forgot to ask if we are to read any of *Imitation* before Wednesday??

  3. Jenny, I saw the picture of your journal the other day and I LOVED the colorfulness of it. It’s funny how something as simple as colored pens can make your day! God Bless.

    • Hi Laura. Yes, colored pens made a huge difference in my journal. It is pleasing to my eye which grabs my attention and makes me want to spend time in there.

      • Tempting…tempting…I may have to try some colors. Pencil is so…so…safe LOL!

  4. Oh I know what you mean about having “great plans on paper”….I have lists and lists and half-filled-out schedules. If I could just stick to the plan, maybe it would work like it is supposed to. (Or I do it for awhile and then stop.) Thank you for sharing. :) Have a beautiful week.

    • I just need to ‘Just Do It’ like the ad says. It doesn’t say ‘Just Plan It’ for a reason.

  5. Oh, you showed me fun pens…now I want them! Must….resist….I use great pens for everything, but especially journals and real letter/notecard writing (Yes, I am a throwback). It makes it so much more elegant and beautiful.

    I am also doing a lot of cooking/baking prep this week. Fall kickstarts the cooking!

    • My daughter and I ran to walmart a bit ago and she tried to steer me away from the school supply aisle filled with pens and highlighters and sticky notes and…and…

  6. Love the pens…I have been using a pencil…I don’t know why but that is my tool of choice writing anymore.

    Looking forward to starting *Imitation* since it has been so long. I am curious to see the amount of time we will dedicate to homeschool this year…the first week I may be focused on following some kind of schedule with less time on the computer.

    God bless you Jenny…I can’t imagine 7 (almost) to homeschool! No doubt, God certainly gives the graces!

    • BTW…also love the natural cleaners pin…I use several of them already and love them!

      I haven’t done the *Christ* typo with my husband Chris yet LOL! So funny you do that.

    • Theresa, imagining homeschooling these kids makes my head swim. God must have intrusted this to me because He knew it would keep me totally humble.

  7. Oh who doesn’t like colorful pens? I love those.

    Chris sounds a lot like Andrew. If I ask him an opinion about food…sometimes it get can frustrating for him (what’s the right answer??! lol) Whatever I cook he NEVER complains, is always gracious if something doesn’t turn out and as far as shopping goes he always leaves it to my ‘plan’ for meals which never stays as neat and tidy as the first day!

    I started a small chore chart of things 5 year olds could do. She is excited about it. I wasn’t going to do allowance and we decided to do a little. She asked how much the mermaid barbie she wanted was. I said $27. She said, “$27 for a barbie?!” LOL..now that she is saving her money she understands a little more about the dollar.

    Still haven’t started the Imitation of Christ but I want to….yes I do!

    IS that your parish?

    Blessings on your week Jenny! hug.

    • Good Morning Samantha. No, that’s not our parish, it in a nearby town. For being a ‘new’ church, the interior is very reverent and traditional.

      I love it when our children start figuring out the value of money. These are great lesosns for them to learn at home.

      We will start reading and discussing this Wednesday, but as always, feel free to join the discussion even if you have not read the book yet. YOu will glean so much from the Imitation of Christ, I can’t wait for you to start reading it.

      Have a great week.
