Moments of Gratitude
::safe trip to and from visiting my grandpa in the hospital

::spending the day visiting with my grandparents, aunt, uncle, sister, dad and his wife

Beauty in the Ordinary
I painted some old chairs that belonged to my grandparents, their fist dinning room table set when they were married 64 years ago, turquoise.
From the Kitchen
I made up a menu plan for the month of August. This week looks like this:
M–breakfast casserole::lunch meat sandwiches/fruit/veggie::grilled ckn/salad/bread
T–waffles & sausage::hummus/bread/fruit::sloppy joes/tater tots/salad
W–yogurt & granola::beans w/chips & cheese::ranch bean salad
Th–eggs & ham::pizza/salad/fruit::tacos & rice
F–cereal w/milk::tuna/veggies/fruit::cheesy potato casserole/veggie
Praying
I’m praying for my grandpa/grandparents. They are getting older and their health is getting worse, although by no means terrible; they still are able to live on their own. I don’t think they are baptized and each health scare brings about thought of what/how I should approach them about the Church.
Pondering
My own weaknesses and how I react to a variety of situations. How to handle life as Mary would.

Jenny, what a lovely idea, taking the daybook model and using it as an almanac.
Your comments about your grandparents make me think of my own grandma, whose health is fine but who is older than the pope (only by a year…she’s 85). What would I do without her?!? You remind me that I need to get over to visit her soon!!!
Blessings to you! Keep up the great work!
Glad that your grandfather is recovering. And kudos to you for being able to nurse in a car seat. I never could get the hang of it… we’d always have to pull over and wait for baby to get his/her fill!
I can’t get past that picture you shared…the smoke below, and yet the beauty above? There’s definitely a lesson in that!
~Peace,
LuAnne
Hi LuAnne, isn’t it that way? There is beauty mixed in everything.
Good Morning, Jenny!
The picture of the fires captures their ferocious, vicious beauty.
Yeah for menu planning!
Hey Angela, I always menu plan weekly, but now I’m trying for a month, even though I grocery shop weekly still. I;ve already deviated from my plan…we had Tuesday’s night dinner tonight, LOL!
Prayers for your grandfather, and thank you for your prayers for Robert. Tommy found out a little more about the whole thing when he visited him in the hospital Sunday.
Thanks Kellie. Remembering you and yours in prayer.
Jenny, Making a menu plan was the only way I survived cooking anything when I was home schooling. It stuck with me so that I still do it even though it’s just my husband and I now.
The chairs are so beautiful…Previous generations were such examples of being content with simple things..
I think I messed up my CWA button. : ) +
Hi Caroline. Thanks for stopping by. I don’t see a picture with your button but I can still get there.
I *love* those chairs too! So nice for you to give them new life; a new home. I’m struggling this week to get so much done before school starts. Feeling the need to ‘get back into full gear’ with a schedule and streamlining chores. We’ve had a pretty lazy summer, but I’m ok with that. I need to meal plan – at some point pasta will be on the menu (kids have been requesting it). I just finished two books about Mr. Rogers and they were both wonderful! I’m reflecting a lot about his gentle spirit and kind manner toward everyone, but especially children – he is such a tangible example. I’m praying for a friend who is lost in this world, and also for my pastor who had emergency surgery last week. Wonderful almanac as usual!!
Hi Maria. I think I would enjoy a book about Mr Rogers. I’ll have to check my library.
I agree Samantha, the little things go a long way; I just have to take notice of them.
I love old stuff and especially when it’s from family.
I’m grateful for finding an old GRACO changing table for $10 at the thrift store! Tim and I haven’t had one for the last few babies and our backs have suffered for it.
I recently finished “A Little Way of Homeschooling” by Suzie Andres. It’s a collection of families who are very Catholic and have decided that unschooling is right for them and very compatible with their faith. Some families go all the way, while others are in the middle. Even if I don’t take the complete plunge, it will definately help me relax about where we have been and where we are going. I’ve always joked that we are unschoolers most times. She mentions that our job as Catholic parents is to help our children experience the happiness of heaven by finding true happiness on earth. I’ve come to believe that true happiness on earth for them is hearing God’s call and educating accordingly.
I’m happy to hear about your fan! Keeping in mind, from experience, that some homes are just dustier than others for one reason or another. Especially farm land!
God bless.
I read A Little Way of Homeschooling and enjoyed it. As much as I would love to be some degree of unschooler, it just does not work for me, at least for older children. I’m very relaxed with younger ones.
I love the old chairs Jenny. I am praying for your grandparents. Sounds like a yummy menu. How nice that Chris cleaned your fan
The small things really show how they love us…
Have a great week.
