His Word Heals

His Word Heals

I read in the Gospel the people were amazed at Jesus’ words,

“What is it in his words?” they pondered.

His word has authority and the power to heal

because He Himself is the Word spoken by God

before the world came to be.

I pick up His Word spoken, written for us

because I, too, need healing.

I need Jesus to command “Be quiet!” “Come out of her!”

To still the wounded memories,

the negative thoughts,

to enter those wounded areas and to heal.

I have only to read His Word and ponder

“What is it in His Words?”

I read, I pray, I whisper them

and let them permeate my brokenness

so I may be made whole.

His Word has the power to

do this

and I believe

for I return to them,

listen to them,

am drawn to them,

don’t want to let go of them.

You lead me into the desert

to speak to me

and I surrender.

I am emptied in order to be filled.

You have the words of eternal life.

  1. I love your posts, Theresa!

    • Thank you Rebecca…you put a smile on my face today. It is so good to be able to keep in contact with you here : )

  2. Theresa, your words have blessed me and given me the courage to let go and surrender to Jesus…trusting that “He has only to say the Word, and my soull shall be healed”

Thank you and God bless you!

    • Colleen~thank you for such beautiful words. I am still in that struggle…to let go and surrender. But I know I need only to persevere in reading His Word…everyday. We have to believe and be open. Thomas Merton said something to the effect that the true contemplative goes to prayer completely empty…for the soul does not know which *word* will speak to it and fill it.

  3. As I began reading your blog writing the song ‘thy word is a lamp unto my path’ by Amy Grant came in to my mind and repeated itself over and over.
His word is life and hope and healing to us, we just have to be open and allow HIM to teach us the lessons as we read.

    • Sharon~I happened to read that exact verse in the psalms last night. It really stuck with me. I love when a scripture verse imprints on my heart and mind : )

  4. Theresa, The power of His Word,I know, has delivered me and sustained me, when nothing and no one else could reach my spirit. Thank you for giving testimony to your surrender in the desert.

    • Yes Caroline…you and me both! I love the quote in the back of *Called to Life* when Jacques Phillip states that the first part of our prayer is the physical *touching* of the Word…the Bible. I thought that was beautiful.
